Our History
Brookville Public School has been part of the heart of the Campbellville area for generations, serving students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 in this charming rural community on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The school sits in Brookville, a hamlet with roots going back to early 19th-century settlement when the area grew up around farms and local shops in what was once Nassagaweya Township, a name that reflects the Indigenous word for “river with two outlets” and speaks to the region’s geography and early settlers. Brookville itself was a focal point of local life, with community events, annual agricultural fairs and a historic town hall acting as social hubs through the years. More recently, Brookville students have added to that story, even placing a time capsule in 1988 that was opened decades later, connecting past generations to the present. Today the school stands as a place of learning and community in a landscape rich with natural features such as Crawford Lake Conservation Area and the nearby Hilton Falls trails, showing how history and environment continue to shape life here.
