Earth Day is coming up on April 22
Get ready for our annual 22-minute Stewarttown school-yard/community cleanup happening on Wednesday April 22 (Rain date: Thursday April 23). We’re coming together to give back to our planet—one piece of litter at a time!
While the school provides bags and gloves, we’d love your help in being even more eco-friendly:
-
Repurpose: If you have extra single-use bags at home, send them in!
-
Gear Up: Feel free to bring your own garden gloves from home (just remember to take them back with you).
April 24 is a PA Day
Just a reminder that the school will be closed to students.
Spring Concert
Join us on Thursday, April 30 at 4:30 PM Permission forms were handed out this week and need to be returned to Mrs. Allen by Monday April 29. This form allows performers the option to stay at school after dismissal rather than taking the bus home and heading back for the show.
Track & Field
Mr. Hughes will be starting tryouts on Friday, May 1. The first tryout will be for the 100 meter dash after school from 3 - 4 pm. In order to try out for the school track and field team, students MUST hand in a signed permission form. Permission forms can be picked up from the desk outside Mr. Hughes's office, or from Mr. Roney. Please have students place their completed permission forms in the black container outside Mr. Hughes's office.
Class Building 2026-27
For Gr 6 & 7 Families - Class Building Parent Input 2026-27 - As we begin planning for next year, we invite families to share input on the type of learning environment or teaching styles that best support their child. Please email a written summary to Mr. Dykstra at wrightdykst@hdsb.ca by April 30, 2025. This feedback will be considered as we begin building classes.
Please be advised that we are unable to fulfill requests for specific teachers, classmates, or grade structures (straight vs. combined). Our staffing and class organization remain subject to change as we work to create balanced learning environments for all students.
In the coming weeks, each student will be asked to name six Learning Partners with whom they work well. We will ensure that every child has at least one of their selected peers in their class next year.
Manie Musicale
Students in Mme Brawley's French classes participated in the annual international French music competition called Manie Musicale. It is a music competition based off of the college basketball competition called March Madness and it offers students a chance to learn French through music. All students fill out brackets for the competing songs and students throughout the world vote on the French songs that they love, with the most popular songs moving on throughout the competition towards the finals. Students earn points for every accurate choice they make on their bracket. The music represented comes from a variety of genres and represents francophone artists around the globe. This year there were 38 countries and 940,943 students registered in the competition. Each week, reveal videos are released to display the results of the votes and in those videos, the work from students ranging from kindergarten all the way through high school are showcased to participants around the world. Stewarttown was represented in these release videos with 4 pieces of work called Smashdoodles. The work from Arish Baskaran (class 74), Niya Knoepfli (class 84), Sloane Clarke (class 84) and Katelyn Harrison (class 82) were broadcasted in French classrooms all around the world. The winning artist this year was Maheva and her song called "Toucher La Lune." At Stewarttown, a Finale Assembly revealed the overall winning brackets in our school. Congratulations to our students who were featured in the reveal videos and congratulations to the following bracket winners:
1st Place Students: Ainslyn D.-K. & Mason S.
1st Place Staff Member: Mrs. Cunningham
1st Place Overall Class: Class 84 and 63
Dodgeball Tournament
Student Parliament is running the annual Stewarttown Dodgeball Tournament on Wednesday, May 13 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM. Students who wish to participate will create teams of 8 to 10 players and members can be from any grade. For students who wish to play but do not have a team, one will be created for them. Each team will elect a team captain and the group will decide on a team name. Teams are encouraged to dress up and create a cheer to amplify the fun! Prizes will be awarded to the top 2 team finalists with the best team spirit and best team costume. A reminder to students that the tournament is a school event, and they are required to follow our School Code of Conduct. Parents, please arrange a ride home for your child. The event will wrap up at 6:00 sharp.
Each player will need a signed permission form in order to participate. Forms are now available at school and are due by Monday, April 27.
We will offer a snack bar, selling drinks and pizza. Once again, Student Parliament is raising money for the Halton Learning Foundation and some of the proceeds from our Snack bar will be donated to this charity.

Halton Learning Foundation
The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) is a registered charity that supports education equity and opportunities for students of the Halton District School Board by helping to remove financial barriers.
Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month is here! - April 2026 is the third annual HLF Month and HDSB schools and community members are coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the financial support, provided by HLF, that many HDSB students need to fully engage in learning such as school supplies, food and clothing.
Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.
Families can learn more about the Halton Learning Foundation and how to support HLF Month by visiting the HLF Month webpage on the HLF website (haltonlearningfoundation.ca).
