June is Pride Month
A time when people around the world celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community and the right for everyone to be who they are and love who they love. Pride Month is about celebrating diversity, inclusion, and respect. It’s a time to recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals throughout history and today - and to stand up for equal rights for everyone. At our school, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be learning more about Pride through books, activities, and discussions that help us understand the importance of acceptance and kindness.
June is National Indigenous History Month!
This June, our school community joins together to honour National Indigenous History Month. This is a dedicated time for us to celebrate the rich history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. Learning about Indigenous history isn't just about looking back—it’s about understanding our shared present and actively participating in reconciliation.
Throughout June, Stewarttown will have morning announcements highlighting the importance of this month. Students can also drop by the library to explore our curated collection of books, graphic novels, and resources written by Indigenous authors
We encourage all students, staff, and families to use this month to listen, learn, and reflect. Whether it is reading a book by an Indigenous author, learning about the traditional territory our school sits on, or participating in community events, every step counts toward a future built on truth and mutual respect. As a school community, we are committed to deepening our understanding and moving forward in the spirit of truth and reconciliation.
Library News
All books are due back to the library June 12. (Look in your lockers and under your beds!) Did you know students can borrow up to 10 books for the summer? To be eligible, students must be returning to Stewarttown in September, and currently have a clean library record (no overdue/lost books). Students are invited to speak to Mrs. Cunningham if they would like to participate!
For our Grade 8s
To help offset the grad ceremony cost, we are asking each family to contribute $10 at SchoolCash Online by June 14. The School Council has graciously offered to cover any remaining balance.
A Message from Food4Kids Halton
On Monday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m., we invite you to join us at the 10th tee at The Club at North Halton in Georgetown for a photo opportunity with community leaders during “The Longest Day of Golf,” a fundraiser supporting Food4Kids Halton’s Weekends Without Hunger program. You'll be able to find us at the large Food4Kids Halton tent. This initiative directly supports Halton Hills students experiencing food insecurity. Starting at 5:00 a.m. and finishing around 10:00 p.m., The Club’s golf professionals will take on a full day of golf to raise awareness and funds for our Weekends Without Hunger program in Halton Hills, which provides healthy food packages to approximately 100 local children each weekend. To learn more about this initiative, please visit:

Halton Learning Foundation
Thank a Teacher Campaign - As the school year winds down, the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) invites families to take part in the ‘Thank a Teacher’ campaign, a meaningful initiative to recognize the incredible contributions of teachers and school staff across HDSB. Beyond lessons and assignments, students are learning how to be kind, how to persevere, and how to believe in themselves. Much of that learning is made possible by educators who show up in quiet but powerful ways. It may be the teacher who noticed a student struggling and offered encouragement. The staff member who made a child feel included. The educator who stayed a little longer to help something click.
Or a retiring teacher whose years of care have shaped countless lives. These moments may not always be visible, but they are deeply felt. Through the Thank a Teacher campaign, you are invited to honour an educator, a staff member, or a retiree with a donation in their name. Your gratitude becomes meaningful support for students in need across our community. When a gift is made, you can send a personalized card and message to the honoured educator, letting them know someone recognized their compassion and paid it forward.
