Makwendam Public School

Originally known as Ryerson Public School, Makwendam Public School has been a cherished cornerstone of learning and connection in Burlington for generations. In late 2021, our school family proudly embraced a new identity centered on equity and inclusion, adopting the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) word Makwendam, which carries the meaningful message "to remember." This name serves as a daily reminder to honor history, learn from one another, and walk together in truth, respect, and reconciliation. Today, as the proud home of the Roadrunners, Makwendam remains a bright, welcoming space where dedicated staff, wonderful families, and curious young learners come together. Guided by our motto—"Be Your Best Self"—our students strive every day to be brave, be collaborative, be inclusive, be kind, be empathetic, and be grateful, building a compassionate community where every child belongs and thrives.
