Weekly Update from Limehouse Public School

February 20, 2026

Kindness, Gratitude and a Growth Mindset

Dear Limehouse Families,

Following up on the great success of last year's STEM night, Limehouse School Council is happy to bring Stemotics Canada back again for another fun filled evening this year!

We are thrilled to offer a hands-on, age-appropriate STEM experience designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in young learners. Stemotics programs are carefully structured by grade level to ensure every child is engaged, challenged, and inspired. This opportunity is able to be brought back to Limehouse thanks to the money raised during Santa Breakfast earlier this school year.

Day: Thursday

Date: March 26, 2026

Timings : 5:30 to 7:30 PM

For our JK–SK students, children will explore motion and simple machines using LEGO WeDo. Through fun and interactive builds like an Alligator or Carousel, they will discover how belts, pulleys, motors, and simple coding work together to create movement. This program is perfect for introducing our youngest learners to engineering concepts in a playful and supportive environment.

For Grades 1–3, students will step into the world of creative robotics with LEGO SPIKE Essentials. They will build exciting projects such as a Dancing Robot or Satellite while learning how to use motors and sensors. Through guided coding activities, children will strengthen their problem-solving skills and logical thinking — all while having fun bringing their creations to life.

For Grades 3–5, we are offering an engaging 3D Modelling & Printing experience. Students will design their own custom 3D keychain, learn the basics of computer-aided design (CAD), and understand how 3D printers transform digital ideas into real objects. Each child will take home their very own 3D printed creation — a memorable keepsake from the event.

In fact every child can have a 3D printed Keychain of their name if parents/guardians submit their first name in advance below.

Why Being On Time Matters

We want to emphasize the critical importance of ensuring that students arrive at school on time each day. Punctuality is more than just a rule; it is a vital life skill and a key driver of academic success.

The Foundational Minutes

The first minutes of the school day are essential. They allow students to settle in, receive instructions, and begin learning in a calm, focused environment. When a student arrives late, they miss the structure and confidence that a prompt start provides.

The Ripple Effect of Tardiness:

  • Disrupted Instruction: Social connections are vital, but they are best made before our 8:30 AM start. Late arrivals interrupt the flow of the classroom.

  • Teacher Diversion: Teachers must pause lessons to catch up late-arriving students, diverting attention from the group.

  • Administrative Strain: Office staff must manage late check-ins, pulling them away from other essential school safety and support tasks.

The "Late Math"

It may seem like "just a few minutes," but over the course of a school year, these gaps in learning create a significant deficit.

If your child is late...

They miss this much per year...

This equals...

5 Minutes a day

15 hours

3 Full Days of school

10 Minutes a day

30 hours

6 Full Days of school

15 Minutes a day

45 hours

9 Full Days of school

30 Minutes a day

90 hours

18 Full Days (nearly a month!)

Looking Ahead

We’ve observed that while our bus riders consistently arrive on time, some students traveling by car are arriving after instruction has begun. We respectfully ask that all families aim for an 8:20 AM arrival.

As we move into the second half of the year, I encourage you to reflect on your family’s morning routine. Your partnership is vital in maintaining an environment that is orderly, respectful, and conducive to every child’s success.

Safety & Drop-Off Logistics

To ensure the safety of all students and maintain a smooth start to the day, please adhere to the following traffic and parking protocols:

Remember this is a school parking lot. Utmost care, and slow, alert driving is important.

The Upper Parking Lot (Top of Hill)

Please do not stop or park illegally in the upper lot. Cars parked outside of designated spaces significantly reduce visibility for other drivers and create a safety risk .

The Procedure: Please park your car in a legal space in the lower lot, unless picking up or dropping off from YMCA

  • The Hand-off: Walk your children to the bottom of the staircase, where they will be greeted by our staff.

Bus Loading Zones

Do not stop or park in Bus Loading Zones at any time, even if buses are not currently present. Our buses operate on a fluid schedule and need immediate, unobstructed access to these zones for student safety.

Late Arrivals (After 8:30 AM)

For the safety of our students and staff, all school doors are locked at 8:30 AM. If you arrive after this time:

  1. Call the Office: Dial 905.873.6354.

  2. Greeting: A staff member will meet your child at the top of the stairs or at the main door.

  3. Alternative: You may walk your child up to the main entrance to ensure they enter the building safely.

Key Takeaways for a Smooth Morning

  • Target Arrival: 8:20 AM (to be ready for the 8:30 AM bell).

  • Parking: Lower lot only.

  • Walking Path: Use the staircase greeting point.

  • Bus Zones: Keep clear 24/7.

On behalf of all students and families, we thank you for your continued support.

Weekly Update from Limehouse Public School

January 30, 2026

Kindness, Gratitude and a Growth Mindset

Dear Limehouse Families,

We have made it through the darkest 10 weeks of the school year and the days are getting longer. Get ready to bundle up and celebrate winter in a fun and meaningful way! On Thursday, February 5, our school will be combining Winter Walk Day and National Sweater Day into one special day of learning, movement, and caring for the environment. Hopefully It's not so cold that we can actually go outside!

National Sweater Day
To mark National Sweater Day, we’ll be turning the heat down by 3 degrees. Students are encouraged to wear a cozy sweater or warm layers to stay comfortable throughout the day. Using a little less energy helps protect our planet by reducing pollution and conserving resources. Even small actions—like wearing a sweater—can make a big difference when we work together!

Winter Walk Day
We’ll also be celebrating Winter Walk Day by getting active and enjoying the fresh winter air. Students are encouraged to walk to school in the morning if possible. If you live too far away or take the bus, you can still participate by going for a family walk in the evening.
In addition, our whole school will head out together for a special Winter Walk on the Bruce Trail, giving students a chance to explore nature, enjoy the winter scenery, and stay active.

So grab your sweaters, coats, hats, mittens, and boots, and join us for a day that’s all about staying warm, staying active, and being kind to the Earth.

Let’s make February 5 our coolest day of the year—Snow much fun!

Subject: A Special Cultural Experience: The Three Musketeers / Les Trois Mousquetaires!

Dear Families,

We are thrilled to share that on Tuesday, February 17, our Grade 1–5 Core French students at Limehouse Public School will be treated to a special bilingual performance of The Three Musketeers by the renowned Duffelbag Theatre!

🎭 Why This Performance?

This event is made possible through a cultural grant intended to provide students in Halton schools with rich, authentic French language experiences. Duffelbag Theatre is famous for its interactive storytelling style, where students are invited on stage to become part of the play.

📚 Bringing the Curriculum to Life

While the show is sure to be full of laughs, it also serves as a valuable learning tool. This experience aligns with our Core French curriculum by helping students:

  • Build Listening Skills: Students will identify familiar words, phrases, and expressions in a real-world context.
  • Use Visual Clues: By watching the actors’ body language and tone of voice, students will practice strategies to confirm and clarify meaning.
  • Make Connections: Students will use their prior knowledge of stories to bridge the gap between English and French, asking questions and making personal connections to the performance.

We are so grateful for the funding that allows us to bring these "living language" opportunities directly to our gym! It promises to be a memorable morning of culture, comedy, and creative learning.

If you have any questions about the event, please feel free to reach out to Mr Jones or Mme Pippo.

Dear Limehouse Families,

Last CALL:

It’s Hearing and Vision Screening time!

Our clinic will be at your school Limehouse PS on: January 14th, 2026

Register your child and complete the payment through this Online Link

The deadline for registration is Jan 12th, at 9am and the duration at the school may be adjusted based on student participation.

Your child’s Hearing and Vision should be screened every year!

A fee of $25.00 is collected to help offset the cost of bringing this clinic to your school.

Why Screening Matters:

  • Growing children are very susceptible to middle ear problems and one of the best ways to prevent hearing loss is early detection of middle ear function issues.
  • Vision issues are common in children, so early detection is crucial for their healthy development and academic success.

Our screening program helps identify hearing and vision concerns before they impact learning and social development, ensuring children get the support they need to thrive. As part of the program, we will refer any results that are considered outside the normal range to the parents for follow-up with their physician and/or optometrist.

For hearing concerns, we recommend bringing your referral to your physician, who can then refer you to an ENT specialist, which is covered by OHIP. Alternatively, you have the option to schedule an appointment with an Audiologist without needing a referral from your family physician. Please note that visits to an Audiologist may not be covered by OHIP, and you could incur a fee ranging from $75 to $150 or more.

Your child's hearing is not being monitored unless they're seeing an audiologist or an ENT specialist, making our screening program a valuable resource for your child's health.

While eye exams are covered by OHIP, our hearing clinic offers a basic vision screening for students participating in the hearing clinic.

For more information and to address all your questions and concerns, please visit our website at www.schoolscreeningassociation.ca.

Dear Limehouse Families,

Happy New Year! We sincerely hope that you and your families had a safe and wonderful holiday break. Whether your time was spent traveling, visiting with loved ones, or simply enjoying some quiet downtime at home, we hope you are returning with a sense of well-being and a refreshed spirit.

As we head into this next phase of the school year, we are eager to carry that positive energy back into our classrooms. The "winter stretch" is often a time of incredible academic growth and deeper social connections for our students, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve in the coming months.

Important Reminders for the Return

To help our students transition smoothly back into their routines, please keep the following in mind:

  • Winter Gear: Please ensure students come prepared for outdoor recess with warm coats, hats, and gloves. Extras are not a bad idea as well.

  • Healthy Habits: As we enter the colder months, a focus on consistent sleep schedules and hand-washing helps keep our community healthy and ready to learn.

  • Upcoming Dates: Keep an eye on the school calendar for upcoming events.

A Note of Gratitude

We are so grateful for your continued partnership. Your support at home is the foundation of our students' success here at school. Let’s make this year our best one yet!

Dear Limehouse Families,

As we conclude an incredibly productive and inspiring first four months of learning, we are ready to embrace the holiday break.

I extend my deepest gratitude to all of our dedicated teachers and staff for their tireless efforts this semester in keeping learning engaging, challenging, and joyful for every student.

The holiday season offers us a precious opportunity to pause, connect, and reflect. It is a time to cherish the warmth of family, the comfort of friendship, and the value of gratitude. May the coming weeks bring you peace, joy, and wonderful memories that you and your loved ones will treasure.

We wish all of our students and families a restful and happy holiday season, and all the very best for a healthy and Happy New Year!

Early Dismissal Friday December 19, 2025

On the last day of classes prior to the winter holidays, the HDSB decreases the instructional day for all schools by 90 minutes; which would equate to 70% of a regular schedule. At Limehouse, we will dismiss at 1:30 pm and supervision will end at 1:45 pm.

The two nutrition breaks remain at 50 and 40 minutes respectively.

Each period in the day will be shortened so that it would be 70% of a regular schedule. There will be 210 minutes of instruction rather than the usual 300.

Therefore our day looks like this:

Morning Entry: 8:30 - Regular Start time
Dismissal: 1:30
Supervision Ends: 1:45 - All Buses departed

Reduce the Spread of Illness at School

With the arrival of colder weather and as we spend more time close together indoors, we are seeing an increase in respiratory and gastrointestinal illness. Here are a few tips for a healthy fall and winter from Halton Region Public Health:

  • Educate students and staff on the signs, symptoms, and ways to prevent illness.
  • Encourage students and staff to stay home until their symptoms are improving. Individuals with respiratory symptoms must feel better for at least 24 hours. Individuals with gastrointestinal symptoms, including vomiting/diarrhea, must feel better for 48 hours before returning to school.
  • Advise parents/guardians and students to report symptoms when absent due to illness.
  • Contact Halton Region Public Health, by calling 311

Dear Limehouse Families,

The show is back on!

The winter concert will be this Thursday December 18!

There will be two shows so that families can choose to come first at 9 am and then go on about their day or at 2 pm so you can enjoy the show and then go home with your kids.

Our afternoon buses will run normally however it would help our process greatly if you wish to take your child home with you instead of riding the bus, we ask you to fill out this form. We want to ensure everyone gets home safely.

Mr Jones

COLDER WEATHER

Check our website weather tool here to see the temperature we use to determine our activities throughout the year.

We still go outside every day. However, when the temperature or wind chill reaches -20°C (twenty degrees below zero, Celsius), students will be granted immediate entry to school upon arrival, and students will remain indoors during nutrition breaks. Students are also required to keep their outdoor coats/jackets with them throughout the instructional day, in case of a need to evacuate the school.

Please help us reinforce the message for the students that wearing proper outerwear as their teachers instruct them to do is very important to staying warm and healthy.

Students often benefit from having extra clothes (socks, mitts, pants) to change into once their layers become wet.

Dear Limehouse Families,

Santa Breakfast:

Santa Breakfast was, once again, a huge success! Thank you to all the families and friends that came out to support Limehouse and meet Santa! Thank you to the School Council for all the planning,  parent volunteers, student volunteers, chefs, silent auction and class basket donors and winners, and folks who stayed after to help clean up! This event is loved by all! Shortly we will be able to share how much was raised by this wonderful community event!

A big thank you to Luciano and Sarah’s No Frills in Acton for being a major food sponsor and to The Friendly Green for bringing Santa to Limehouse!

Knitted Hats!

At Santa Breakfast you may have seen the variety of handmade knitted hats skillfully made by one of the great-grandma’s of Limehouse. She would like people to have them for a small donation to the school (any amount you wish) and you can see them again at the concert this week. There are all sizes from infant on up.

Charitable Season:

Our Holiday Food and Gift Drive continues until Friday! We will be collecting non-perishable foods for the Georgetown Breadbasket. Additionally, we will be looking to support some families in our community and partnering with Miracle on Main once again with our friend Tiger Jeet Singh Jr. Donations of gift cards, toys, winter accessories and small gifts would be greatly appreciated if you are able to help.

In order to ensure food and gifts are ready for families in time for the winter break, please send your donations in by Friday, December 12.  You are welcome to bring them to the concert this week and leave them under the Christmas tree in our lobby.
