2025-2026 School Year

Weekly Community Messages - May 29th, 2026

What a week it was here at Tuck.  The Grade 7s had a wonderful trip to Camp Kawartha, where we were graced with wonderful weather (and a few mosquitoes!).   We are happy to announce that our school has raised $3438 for Jump Rope for Heart. Thank you so much for your continued generosity.

Ontario Day - June 1st

Ontario Day is coming up on June 1. Our school and the Halton District School Board recognize Ontario Day as an opportunity to celebrate the province’s rich history, innovation and the many people, places and communities that continue to shape Ontario today.

On June 1, our students will participate in learning that explore Ontario’s past and present — including Ontario’s role in Canada, economic prosperity and creative and scientific innovation.

Ontario Day provides an opportunity to deepen understanding and appreciation of the shared experiences, milestones and contributions that continue to shape the province’s future.

IRL:Community and Unplugged Canada  – Building Momentum for Youth Mental Health

Over the past few months, Heather and Roxanne have been fostering meaningful relationships, both locally and nationally, to support youth mental health and healthier digital habits including here at Tuck in partnership with Parent Council.

They are pleased to announce their partnership with Unplugged Canada, a parent-led movement focused on helping kids thrive through meaningful connections and real-world experiences. Heather and Roxanne are co-leading the Unplugged Canada Halton chapter, giving our community access to national resources and advocacy.

This partnership aligns with efforts to delay smartphones, develop healthier tech habits, and promote balance. Unplugged Canada also advocates for a national minimum age for social media and provides practical tools for families.

Take action as part of the Tuck community and sign the Unplugged Canada pledge!

Families are encouraged to join the movement by taking the Unplugged Pledge. The more families in our community who sign, the more social pressures ease, and we shift the culture around when we give our kids their first smartphone. Once five or more families

And if your kids already have a smartphone, it’s not too late to make change

Sign the Pledge Here

Stay tuned for upcoming summer tips from Unplugged Canada to help families stay connected offline and balanced during the break. Planning is also underway for exciting fall initiatives, including peer mentoring opportunities at Nelson High School to encourage healthy screen use.

Together, the Tuck community is building a happier, healthier future for our kids!

We are excited to announce the winners of the Yearbook Cover contest.  The selected front cover was designed by Nikki Finucane in Grade 8.  The first page of the yearbook was designed by Hannah Kreckler in grade 2.  Congrats to both winners!

This week, we also had our Spring Concert with our students performing several musical acts.  Both the Concert and Jazz Bands performed, as well as six solo performances by Foster Neilson, April Ma, Audrey Cole, Lainey Gill, William Lenko, and Meryem Turan. Thank you to Mr Hoover for all the work you have done this year to prepare the students for their performances.

Jump Rope for Heart

Our Jump Rope for Heart event takes place next Friday, May 22nd. Kindergarten to grade 6 students will get their hearts pumping outside for one period.

Why do we participate in Jump?

While research may be hard to see, its impact is impossible to ignore. Thanks to generous donations through Jump Rope for Heart, the Heart & Stroke Foundation is driving groundbreaking research led by Canada’s top medical minds, like Dr. Lori West. Her research has made it possible for infants to safely receive heart transplants from donors with different blood types—saving countless lives.

Please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. You may use the QR code from the postcards sent home or our school’s Jump Rope for Heart webpage . Thank you for your support!
