Weekly Community Messages - May 15th, 2026
The sunny weather has treated us well this week, making cooler days more manageable. On Wednesday, many of our Grades 6 through 8 students participated in the HDSB Senior Track and Field day, with our school placing 2nd overall! On Friday, our students in K through Grade 6 participated in Jump Rope for Heart. Donations can still be made via our school’s Jump Rope for Heart webpage

New School Website
Earlier this year, the HDSB updated all school websites. After training and personalising our template, we are happy to let families know that our new John T Tuck Website is operational.
Moving forward, our Weekly Community Messages will be housed on our website. Families can find them easily from the main page, where there is a button for both our Weekly Community Messages (red button) and a link to our Calendar (yellow button), where important information about school events is posted.

We will continue to send a message out to all families, every Friday at 5 pm with a link to our Weekly Community Message.

IRL:Community and Unplugged Canada – Building Momentum for Youth Mental Health
Over the past few months, Heather and Roxanne have been fostering meaningful relationships, both locally and nationally, to support youth mental health and healthier digital habits including here at Tuck in partnership with Parent Council.
They are pleased to announce their partnership with Unplugged Canada, a parent-led movement focused on helping kids thrive through meaningful connections and real-world experiences. Heather and Roxanne are co-leading the Unplugged Canada Halton chapter, giving our community access to national resources and advocacy.
This partnership aligns with efforts to delay smartphones, develop healthier tech habits, and promote balance. Unplugged Canada also advocates for a national minimum age for social media and provides practical tools for families.
Take action as part of the Tuck community and sign the Unplugged Canada pledge!
Families are encouraged to join the movement by taking the Unplugged Pledge. The more families in our community who sign, the more social pressures ease, and we shift the culture around when we give our kids their first smartphone. Once five or more families
And if your kids already have a smartphone, it’s not too late to make change

Stay tuned for upcoming summer tips from Unplugged Canada to help families stay connected offline and balanced during the break. Planning is also underway for exciting fall initiatives, including peer mentoring opportunities at Nelson High School to encourage healthy screen use.
Together, the Tuck community is building a happier, healthier future for our kids!
