Assassin’s Game Advisory
We wish to bring to your attention a matter concerning the safety of students across Halton. We’ve been made aware that some students, primarily in Grade 12, may be participating in a game called the “Assassin’s Game” (also referred to as “Gotcha Game” or “Senior Splash”). This game has the potential to create an unsafe situation at school and within the community. We want to clarify that this game is not sanctioned by the Halton District School Board or any of our schools. As this unsanctioned activity has been known to involve the use of replica weapons, we remind all students and families that possession of replica weapons is a significant violation of the HDSB Code of Conduct. Violation of the Code of Conduct will result in appropriate consequences in accordance with our progressive discipline policies. What is the Assassin’s Game? The game involves high school students hunting or “assassinating” one another with water or Nerf-style guns. The “assassinations” can take place in a variety of settings, in public, and during daylight and evening hours. Some of the guns used have resembled real firearms. In many instances, observers – unaware the game is being played – have contacted police. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. Thank you for your support as we work together to maintain safe learning environments for all students. If you have questions or concerns about this matter at school, please contact your school principal.
The Halton Regional Police Service has shared an advisory reminding parents/guardians and students about the dangers associated with playing the Assassin’s/Gotcha Game, an annual game where participants use water guns or Nerf-style toys. Quash Quit Group
GDHS is hoping to start a Quash Quit Group for students who are ready to take a step towards quitting vaping or smoking.
The Quash Quit Group will be a safe and supportive space where students can come together to set goals, learn strategies, and get encouragement from peers and staff.
Interested students should either sign-up at the desk in the Guidance Office or speak to Ms. Howarth in the Guidance Office.
What role in the Quash Quit Group can parents/guardians take right now?
Parents/Guardians please join The Lung Health Foundation on April 21st for a webinar to gain knowledge and understand your role in addressing youth vaping.
This Quash webinar will boost your knowledge about vaping and its dangers while preparing you to start a judgement-free dialogue with a teen you care about. This webinar is presented by The Quash Program powered by The Lung Health Foundation. The event will cover:
- Introduction to the youth vaping climate
- Health impacts of vaping
- Supportive conversations with youth
- Key elements of a supportive conversation
- Brief conversations toolkit
The webinar will be delivered in English with live captions. The webinar includes a pre and post poll as well as a post-webinar survey. Following the webinar, registrants will receive a link to the recording and resources available for 3-months to re-watch or watch in case you weren't able to attend. This event is possible due to the support of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

Halton Learning Foundation
Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month is here! April 2026 is the third annual HLF Month and HDSB schools and community members are coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the financial support, provided by HLF, that many HDSB students need to fully engage in learning such as school supplies, food and clothing.
Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.
Families can learn more about the Halton Learning Foundation and how to support HLF Month by visiting the HLF Month webpage on the HLF website (haltonlearningfoundation.ca).
Are you an HDSB parent/guardian who could use some help?
If you are an HDSB parent/guardian who needs assistance, please contact your child’s teacher or principal.
Homestay Hosts Needed in Halton
Each year, the HDSB’s International Student Program (ISP) welcomes students into schools, and as a result, our programs benefit, our community benefits and local students create lifelong friendships and global connections. Canada Homestay Network (CHN) is currently looking for hosts in Halton for international students joining the HDSB during the 2026-2027 school year.
The HDSB has received a strong number of applications for the 2026-2027 school year, including several students who will be staying for a shorter period of approximately three to four months. This creates a great opportunity for families who may be interested in short-term hosting.
Hosting an international student is a unique and rewarding experience. You'll give a young learner a life-changing opportunity while creating lasting memories for your own family.
