Good afternoon Falcon Families,

We are excited to welcome all our students back on Tuesday, September 8th! It’s going to be a fantastic year filled with new learning, exploration, meaningful connections, and a strong sense of community. We can’t wait to see everyone and begin this new chapter together! Please take a moment to read our First Day Procedures.

We love seeing families walking together to and from school, it's a wonderful way to start and end the day! However, we kindly ask that dogs are kept off the pavement during these times, as some students feel nervous around them. Your support in helping all children feel safe and comfortable is greatly appreciated. E-scooters are not permitted on school grounds please see the letter.

Crossing Guard Program

Please take a moment to review: Identification of School Crossing Guard Locations Procedure The following are important reminders for pedestrians and drivers:

Safe Crossing Protocols

• Always use designated crosswalks and follow the instructions of crossing guards.

• Children and parents must stay well back from the curb until assisted by a crossing guard.

• Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles across the street when using a crosswalk

• Avoid distractions such as phones or headphones while crossing streets.

Driving in School Zones

• Drivers and cyclists must stop and yield the entire roadway at school crossings, pedestrian crossovers, and where crossing guards are present.

• Proceed only after all pedestrians and crossing guard have safely reached the sidewalk.

• Never block crosswalks, intersections, or driveways.

Parking Guidelines

• Illegally stopped or parked vehicles near school zones can obstruct visibility and create serious safety risks.

• Streets around our schools are posted with "No Stopping" and "No Parking" signs to enhance safety. Please respect these restrictions.

• Consider parking a block away and walking to the school to help reduce congestion and create a safer environment for everyone.

Welcome Back!

We hope everyone had a relaxing and refreshing summer, enjoying time outdoors and making memories with family and friends. As we step into a brand-new school year, we’re excited to welcome all of our students and families back to Falgarwood! HDSB was busy making Falgarwood beautiful over the summer. Our exterior grounds are brand new, we can’t wait for you to see! Inside, we have our HVAC being fully upgraded, this will take the majority of the year to complete.

As we come to the end of another wonderful school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the many successes, achievements, and memorable experiences we have shared together. Throughout the year, our students have learned, grown, and created countless memories, while building meaningful friendships and strengthening our school community. We are incredibly proud of all that has been accomplished and grateful for the support of our families, staff, and students. As summer begins, we wish everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable break filled with fun, rest, and special moments with loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting year in the fall!

Good afternoon Falcons,

A heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers for your dedication and support throughout the year. We truly could not have done it without you. From organizing and handing out pizza each week, to reading with our students, to joining us on field trips, your time, energy, and enthusiasm have made a meaningful difference. Your contributions help create a welcoming, supportive, and vibrant school environment, and you play an important role in making Falgarwood a stronger and better community. We were also delighted that so many of you were able to join us for our Volunteer Tea on Wednesday, where we had the opportunity to celebrate and thank you in person. We are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

What a perfect day we had for Jump Rope for Heart! Thank you to everyone who participated today and to our community for raising above our goal! We raised $2,150.00

We are proud to announce that our school has achieved Platinum EcoSchool certification, the highest level of recognition awarded through the EcoSchools program. This accomplishment reflects the collective efforts of our students, staff, and families in creating a more sustainable school community and demonstrates our commitment to environmental stewardship. Through hands-on learning, leadership opportunities, and meaningful action projects, our students have engaged deeply with real-world environmental issues, developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make a positive impact. From reducing waste and conserving energy to promoting biodiversity and environmental awareness, our school community has embraced sustainability as a shared responsibility. Achieving Platinum status is a celebration of what we can accomplish together and inspires us to continue fostering environmental responsibility, critical thinking, and active citizenship for a greener future.

As we approach the end of the school year, families of students who have medication stored at the school are asked to please stop by the office on the last day of school to pick up their child's medication. If you are unable to do so, the medication will be placed in your child's backpack to be sent home. Please be sure to check your child's backpack carefully at the end of the day to ensure the medication is received. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us safely return all student medications.

Lost and found has one week left, please come visit if you have lost items. Everything will be donated on the last day of school.

Good afternoon Falcons,

As we reflect on another incredible school year, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our dedicated School Council and our entire school community for their outstanding support of fundraising initiatives. Through your generosity, enthusiasm, and commitment, we raised an amazing $37,000 this year. Every one of our students benefited from these funds, which helped enhance learning opportunities, student well-being, and school experiences across all grades. Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase two outdoor tents, new gym equipment, Chromebooks, Kindergarten learning materials, CPE sensory items, and math manipulatives for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. Fundraising also provided support for buses and field trips, our breakfast program, the Angel Fund, music materials, French resources, graduation celebrations and composites, World Book Day books for our library, Q-Mack presentations, and participation in MusicFest. These investments have made a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our students and have enriched their educational experience in countless ways. We are deeply grateful for the time, energy, and generosity of our families, staff, volunteers, and community partners. We could not have accomplished this without the support of our amazing community, and we thank you for helping make our school such a special place to learn and grow.

Our first All-Star Day was a tremendous success! Students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 were placed in mixed-age teams and spent the day participating in a variety of outdoor activities led by our Intermediate students. It was wonderful to see students of all ages working together, encouraging one another, and building new friendships. The enthusiasm, teamwork, and school spirit on display made the day a memorable experience for everyone involved. A special thank you goes to our dedicated staff, who invested countless hours planning and organizing this event. Their hard work helped create a fun, engaging, and inclusive day that was enjoyed by all. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we look forward to making more great memories together in the future!

We are excited to participate in Jump Rope for Heart in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Our school event will be held on Friday, June 19th. Our goal is to raise $2000 as a school community.  All students will participate with their class throughout the day.  If you would like to support the event financially, you will need to register your student. Just a reminder, there is no school tomorrow for students. 

With the warm weather now upon us, we will continue to spend time outdoors each day enjoying fresh air and outdoor activities. Please ensure your child comes to school with a hat and a labelled water bottle to help them stay comfortable and hydrated throughout the day. If you choose to send sunscreen with your child, we kindly ask that it be a lotion or cream rather than an aerosol spray. This helps ensure the safety and comfort of all children and staff when sunscreen is applied. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

As the school year winds down, the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) invites families to take part in the ‘Thank a Teacher’ campaign, a meaningful initiative to recognize the incredible contributions of teachers and school staff across HDSB. Beyond lessons and assignments, students are learning how to be kind, how to persevere, and how to believe in themselves. Much of that learning is made possible by educators who show up in quiet but powerful ways. It may be the teacher who noticed a student struggling and offered encouragement. The staff member who made a child feel included. The educator who stayed a little longer to help something click. These moments may not always be visible, but they are deeply felt.

Through the Thank a Teacher campaign, you are invited to honour an educator, a staff member, or a retiree with a donation in their name. Your gratitude becomes meaningful support for students in need across our community.

The HDSB Graduation Coach for Black Students Program is hosting the Exploring Us Summer Camp this July! Exploring Us is a free, in-person program for Grade 6-8 students that runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program strives to affirm the identities of Black-identifying students, foster relationships, unleash creativity and create lasting memories.

Thank you to our amazing school council today for organizing our Lemonade and cookies today as part of our World Book Day! The weather cooperated and we enjoyed school-wide outdoor reading time. See our Instagram for photos!

We’re excited to announce our upcoming school-wide outdoor walk around the community on May 15th! To help ensure a safe and smooth journey for all students, we are looking for a few parent volunteers to assist with supervising and helping students cross nearby streets along the route. Your support makes a big difference in creating a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Mrs. Gauthier at gauthiers@hdsb.ca. Thank you for your continued support!

We are excited to announce that Challenger Baseball, offered in partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays, will be starting at Falgarwood! This inclusive and adaptive baseball program is designed for students with physical and/or cognitive disabilities and focuses on creating a fun, supportive environment for all participants.

Challenger Baseball will take place every Friday during the first nutrition break. Students will have the opportunity to build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy learning the fundamentals of baseball at their own pace.

Parent requests for September (2nd post): Staff will be meeting to build tentative classes for the fall. Parents can assist us greatly in our planning by informing the main office early of intentions to move out of the area or transfer to another school as soon as possible. When we meet to set up classes for next year, the following factors are considered:

Do you have a child ready for Kindergarten this September! Please register on HDSB.CA. We will be holding a Kindergarten Information Night in May for all registered students, so register as soon as possible to be included.

With warmer weather just around the corner, we’re excited to see everyone getting outside and enjoying the sunshine! As more students choose to bike to school, please remember to bring a lock to safely secure your bike while on school grounds. We’d also like to remind families that e-scooters are not permitted on Falgarwood property. According to Town of Oakville regulations, riders must be over the age of 16. Thank you for your cooperation in helping keep our school community safe and organized.

Ready to shake off those winter blues? Our Spring Fair is officially just around the corner - on Thursday, May 28th, and you won't want to miss it! Our School Council has been working behind the scenes like busy bees to transform this evening into something truly special. Whether you’re coming for the vibes, the treats, or just to finally catch up with your neighbours in the sunshine, we’ve got you covered. It’s more than just an event—it’s about bringing our amazing community together. Mark those calendars, grab your crew, and let’s make some memories!

Parent requests for September: Staff will be meeting to build tentative classes for the fall. Parents can assist us greatly in our planning by informing the main office early of intentions to move out of the area or transfer to another school as soon as possible. When we meet to set up classes for next year, the following factors are considered:

-instructional groupings

-maturity/work habits

-learning style/teaching style

-program continuity

-peer relationships/group dynamics

-parental input

The importance of any one of these factors varies from student to student. Individual student’s progress and placement are carefully considered. If there is important information in the class building process that you think teachers do not already have, please fill out this google form by May 15th. 

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month is here! April 2026 is the third annual HLF Month and HDSB schools and community members are coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the financial support, provided by HLF, that many HDSB students need to fully engage in learning such as school supplies, food and clothing.

Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.

On April 8th at 6:30 PM, join three expert coaches and mothers for a free session on Soul-Led Parenting—a roadmap to moving from fear-based control to authentic connection.

• Carolyn Hidalgo, CPCC: Life Coach and founder of the Soul Development Academy. A former VP of Finance, she bridges the gap between high-level achievement and soulful living.

• Karen Sue-A-Quan: A 30-year veteran pharmacist at SickKids and life coach specializing in mindfulness, compassion, and "applied spirituality" as an anchor for life’s challenges.

• Thao Choi: A mental health advocate and coach who integrates Zen practices with CBT/DBT to help parents navigate anxiety, learning difficulties, and unconditional love.

Good afternoon Falcons,

Falgarwood is excited to celebrate World Book Day on April 23, 2026, with a full day of activities that highlight the joy of reading and imagination. Students will take part in a class book selection, where each class nominates and votes on a favourite title, with one chosen book purchased per class from School Council. We are also hosting our second annual Bookmark Design Contest, inviting students to create original bookmarks inspired by their love of reading, one winner from each class will receive a $15 Chapters/Indigo gift card. Weather permitting, classes will enjoy a special outdoor reading session, and students are encouraged to bring a favourite book to read together outside. Adding to the festivities, there will be a lemonade and spring cookie fundraiser to help support our grade 8 graduation. Students are also welcome to dress up as a book-inspired character or idea if they wish, with an emphasis on simple, creative, and homemade costumes; participation is completely optional.

Homestay Hosts Needed in Halton

Each year, the HDSB’s International Student Program (ISP) welcomes students into schools,   and as a result, our programs benefit, our community benefits and local students create lifelong friendships and global connections. Canada Homestay Network (CHN) is currently looking for hosts in Halton for international students joining the HDSB during the 2026-2027 school year.

The HDSB has received a strong number of applications for the 2026-2027 school year, including several students who will be staying for a shorter period of approximately three to four months. This creates a great opportunity for families who may be interested in short-term hosting.

Hosting an international student is a unique and rewarding experience. You'll give a young learner a life-changing opportunity while creating lasting memories for your own family. As a host, you provide a private bedroom, three daily meals, access to WiFi and laundry and a welcoming, supportive and safe home. CHN offers full training, 24/7 support and a monthly stipend.

CHN will be hosting two virtual information sessions for families interested in learning more about becoming a homestay host:

• Monday, March 30, 2026 from 7 - 8 p.m. - Join the session

• Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 7 - 8 p.m. - Join the session

• Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 7 - 8 p.m. -  Join the session

Eco Week

The week we return from break, March 23rd - March 27th, the Eco Team is going to be celebrating an Eco Week, filled with 5 different daily challenges for classes to complete.  Please take a look at the challenges for the week here!

Open on cash online and open until Thursday, March 12th. Last term of the year, pizza will go right up until the last week of school. No late orders will be accepted.

If you missed the School Cash Online order, we will have a very limited quantity of Sun Chips to sell the day of. These items will be sold in front of the office on Friday, March 13th for $3/bag during 2nd break.

Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health           

We are excited to share a valuable opportunity to support your child’s well-being.  School Mental Health Ontario is offering a free webinar series as part of the By Your Side Learning Hub, designed to help parents and caregivers navigate important topics to support their children's mental health. This expert-led series will provide insights and practical strategies on:  

• balanced device use 

• vaping 

• body image 

• anxiety 

The webinars will also include answers to questions that parents/caregivers can provide ahead of the webinar, giving you the chance to ask questions and gain practical guidance.  Sessions run March to June  Register for free today   

 Police Record Check (PRC) Update for Volunteers 

This is effective April 1, 2026.  In December 2025, the Ontario Ministry of Education introduced amendments to Police Record Check requirements under Ontario Regulation 298/25, effective April 1, 2026. As a result, school boards are now required to obtain a new Police Record Check (PRC) for all school volunteers every five years. A new PRC will also be required if there has been a lapse in submitting the Annual Offence Declaration.  These updated requirements apply to both current and new volunteers and are part of ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. We sincerely appreciate the time and care our volunteers bring to our school community. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference, and we look forward to welcoming both returning and new volunteers.
