Running June 1st to June 5th, Bike to School Week invites Halton Region students, and students from all across Canada, to celebrate the joy and possibilities of riding a bike! Students can also participate by actively travelling to school in other ways like scootering or walking! Community Orientation at Sherwood Library

You are warmly invited to join us for a community orientation at the Milton Public Library! Police Record Checks and Maintaining Your Volunteer Status (copied from the HDSB Volunteers in HDSB Schools Webpage)

The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. All volunteers must meet provincial requirements outlined in Ontario Regulation 521/01: Collection of Personal Information. Under the regulation (O. Reg. 298/25), effective April 1, 2026, school boards are required to collect a new police record check for volunteers every five (5) years before beginning any duties.

To volunteer at an HDSB school, the following requirements apply:

If you have obtained a Police Record Checks with VSC dated Sept. 1, 2021 or earlier, a new Police Record Check must be submitted to the school.

If you have a Police Record Checks with VSC dated after Sept. 1, 2021, a new Police Record Check is required every five (5) years, based on the year your most recent check was submitted.
Annual Offence Declaration - If a valid Police Record Check is already on file and not required that year, you must complete the HDSB Annual Offence Declaration by Sept. 1 each year. Volunteers are required to complete an Annual Offence Declaration every year following the date of their police record check (within the 5 year renewal cycle). If there are any lapses in the Annual Offence Declaration, the existing police record check is considered invalid and a new one must be requested to remain an active volunteer.

Ticks in the Community

As the presence of ticks is on the rise in Southern Ontario, we wanted to give you information from the Halton Public Health Department on managing and living with Ticks in the community.

Public Health has made a Fact Sheet available on their website: HE-tick-id-card-fact-sheet.pdf (halton.ca). Health Canada has also recently posted new resources on blacklegged ticks on their website. There are videos, posters, games that can help you and your children know more about managing these pests. Please share this information with your parent community.

Police Record Checks and Maintaining Your Volunteer Status (copied from the HDSB Volunteers in HDSB Schools Webpage)

The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. All volunteers must meet provincial requirements outlined in Ontario Regulation 521/01: Collection of Personal Information. Under the regulation (O. Reg. 298/25), effective April 1, 2026, school boards are required to collect a new police record check for volunteers every five (5) years before beginning any duties.

We value your input and if you have specific information about your child that you think would be helpful for us to consider during the process, please complete this Google Form by Friday, May 15th.

EQAO Literacy Session for Families: Focus on Reading (June 3)

Join us for a free live webinar about how EQAO assesses students’ reading skills at key stages of their education. EQAO staff will discuss reading samples and questions from the Primary & Junior Reading Assessments, and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. Participants will hear how these reading passages and questions help assess the skills students are learning in class. Staff will also highlight valuable insights & resources that can help parents and guardians support their child’s learning.

Webinar for Parents & Guardians: Screen Time & Academic Achievement on EQAO Assessments (June 9)

EQAO is pleased to welcome the TARGet Kids! Research Team (www.targetkids.ca) as they present their work examining the relationship between children’s screen time and other health behaviours and academic achievement over time on EQAO's large-scale assessments of reading, writing and mathematics. Team members from EQAO and TARGet Kids! will answer participants’ questions about this important research. Live English to French translation will be available to participants.

We had a fantastic week at EVP! Today’s weather was absolutely perfect for our annual Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser! Our students and staff had such a fun time with all the activities. Our goal is to raise $1500.00 and we invite families to donate online following the link to Escarpment View’s Jump Rope Donation Page or following link which includes the QR code that directs you to EVP’s Donation Page. This week is Mental Health Week. EVP participated in learning about mental health and activities to support well-being. This year, each day had a theme which we shared during morning announcements and students would have discussed the strategies in class! Here are the daily themes we shared: Motivational Monday, Talk About It Tuesday, Wellness Walk Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Fun Friday! We talked about finding joy in moments in the day and through connections with others. We hope your children find joy at EVP!

For our Multi-Year Strategic Plan Prompt of the Day was: EVP has been full of music recently. We’ve had Manie Musicale, Music Monday, Move-A-Thon, and Thursday, the grade 8 band performed at Wonderland. Did you know that music benefits our mental health and well-being? What role does music play in your daily life?

End of Day Dismissal

We really enjoy seeing all of you picking up your children at the end of the day. We do kindly ask that you wait to come onto the hardtop until 2:50pm as classes may be outside for physical education or outdoor learning. Also, ball play, tag games and students/adults riding bikes, scooters, or any type of wheel equipment is not permitted at the end of the day (just like the morning) as we have hundreds of people exiting the school. Thank you so much for keeping our school community safe!!

Kindergarten Orientation - Next Thursday!

We look forward to welcoming our Junior Kindergarten students to Escarpment View in September! We invite our newest students and families to join us for a Kindergarten Orientation on Thursday, May 14th at 4:00pm - 5:00pm. See you soon!

Lockdown Drill - Wednesday, May 13th

On Wednesday morning, we will be holding a Lockdown Drill. This is a planned drill and students and staff will be well prepared with the response and established protocols. Students will be made aware of the Lockdown Drill. Each year, schools conduct drills (i.e., Fire Drills, Lockdown/Hold and Secure Drills). These planned drills are important in ensuring staff and students are prepared in the event of a real emergency.

Our Move-a-thon was an absolute success! The students and staff had a great time! Thank you to our Student Voices, Healthy Choices Leadership Team for all their hard work organizing this fundraiser and event for Halton Learning Foundation! The students and staff volunteers arrived early Friday to set up and the gym was truly a sight to behold, with our City of Lights Theme! Thank you for your donations everyone!

The Anxious Generation Book Club-Last Call!

Mental Health Week - May 4th

Next week is Mental Health Week and all HDSB students and schools will be participating in learning about mental health, helpful strategies and activities to support well-being. This year, each day will hold a theme with strategies which we will share during morning announcements. In addition, we are participating in Music Monday on Monday and Jump Rope for Heart on Friday! What great ways to promote well-being in our school community!

Popcorn Fundraiser for Grade 8 Graduation Trip

Our grade 8 students are helping to raise funds to help with the cost of their Graduation Trip and Angel Fund and we are offering a Popcorn fundraiser for four weeks for students to enjoy popcorn each week (Friday, May 15th, 22nd and 29th and Thursday, June 4th)! On these dates, students will enjoy a bag of popcorn at second break. The popcorn is provided by Lumber Heads Food Co. Please find details below.

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month has come to a close! We thank all families who have provided support to HLF throughout this month. Your generosity helps make a lasting difference in the lives of HDSB students.

Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. HLF’s goal is to ensure that they can continue to say ‘yes’ to every request for support received.

Spring has finally arrived and what a wonderful time to walk/bike/scoot to school! We are so thankful for the hundreds of students and families that walk/bike/scoot to school. We also know many of you park farther away and walk the last few blocks to school to reduce congestion around the school, way to go! Some of you may have noticed the pylons placed in areas where no stopping or drop off can occur. Please plan your morning accordingly so that your child arrives at school on time as you will need to park further away if you choose to drive your child to school. In addition, stopping on the road is not permitted and students walking between parked cars is unsafe. We urge you to work in partnership with us so that students, staff and families are safe. Thank you.

The Anxious Generation Book Club

We are excited to invite parents/guardians to join our Community Book Club, where we will be reading and discussing The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. This timely book examines how technology, parenting, and changing childhood experiences are affecting the mental health and well-being of young people. Together, we will reflect on how these ideas relate to our own children and explore practical ways to support confidence, resilience, and balance in a digital world. We invite you to complete this Google Form to express interest in the Book Club.

Robert Bateman Community Centre Phase 1 opening celebration - May 2

The City of Burlington is hosting the Robert Bateman Community Centre Phase 1 Opening Celebration on Saturday, May 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 5151 New Street, Burlington. The Halton District School Board is proud to be a part of this momentous occasion and welcome the students, families and community members to learn about the services and resources available through our school board in this space.

The HDSB’s space within the Robert Bateman Community Centre is a modern, welcoming hub that supports lifelong learning and community services for learners at all stages. It offers programs such as newcomer support through the Welcome Centre, flexible credit and education pathways and career-focused training including ESL, FSL and a Personal Support Worker certificate. Together, these services strengthen education and workforce development across Halton.

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month - April

Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) Month is here! April 2026 is the third annual HLF Month and HDSB schools and community members are coming together to help raise awareness and funds for the financial support, provided by HLF, that many HDSB students need to fully engage in learning such as school supplies, food and clothing.

Each year, HLF supports more than 3,000 students in the HDSB by providing financial support that removes educational barriers and providing the essential resources students need to focus on schoolwork and thrive to their full potential. Homestay Hosts Needed in Halton

Each year, the HDSB’s International Student Program (ISP) welcomes students into schools, and as a result, our programs benefit, our community benefits and local students create lifelong friendships and global connections. Canada Homestay Network (CHN) is currently looking for hosts in Halton for international students joining the HDSB during the 2026-2027 school year.

The HDSB has received a strong number of applications for the 2026-2027 school year, including several students who will be staying for a shorter period of approximately three to four months. This creates a great opportunity for families who may be interested in short-term hosting.

Hosting an international student is a unique and rewarding experience. You'll give a young learner a life-changing opportunity while creating lasting memories for your own family. As a host, you provide a private bedroom, three daily meals, access to WiFi and laundry and a welcoming, supportive and safe home. CHN offers full training, 24/7 support and a monthly stipend.

CHN will be hosting two virtual information sessions for families interested in learning more about becoming a homestay host:

You Are Invited! Screenager Movie Screening for Parents/Guardians

We invite you to join us for the second movie in the Screenagers movie series at Escarpment View Public School for Parents/Guardians. Screenagers films explore the impact of screen time, social media and digital culture on youth. These film screenings are an important step in fulfilling the HDSB’s ongoing commitment to supporting student mental health and well-being, in alignment with Ministry of Education requirements (PPM 128), which guides schools in promoting safe and supportive learning environments (HDSB).

The upcoming sessions will be held in person at Escarpment View PS (351 Scott Boulevard, Milton) and are open to all parents/guardians of Pineview PS, P.L. Robertson PS, Martin Street PS and Escarpment View PS. We look forward to joining our school communities.

Kindergarten Registration Now Available

Parents/guardians can pre-register their child online through the Register My Child for School page. To register for school in-person, use the Find My Local School tool on the HDSB website to determine your child’s home school and contact the school for additional information.

Families new and/or returning to Ontario, can use the Where Do I Register Tool to guide where to begin the registration process (e.g. home school OR at the HDSB Welcome Centre).

To register to begin school in Fall 2026, Junior Kindergarten (Year 1) children must be four years old by Dec. 31, 2026, and Senior Kindergarten (Year 2) children must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2026.

We hope you had a great week and that your Spring Break was wonderful!

We thought we would come back to spring-like weather, however, the temperature is not just yet warming up! We remind students to continue to come to school with their coats, hats and mittens/gloves. In addition, indoor running shoes are required for physical education classes, please continue to have your children bring them back to school or keep them at school if possible. Thank you for your continued support!

World Autism Day - Thursday, April 2nd

We look forward to participating in Celebrate the Spectrum on World Autism Day in support of Autism Ontario! By raising awareness and learning together, we can help make our school a place where everyone feels valued and accepted.

On Thursday, we invite our community to wear tie-dye or a spectrum of colours and support the Endless Possibilities in Every Pattern!

Allergy and Lunch/Snack Reminders

A reminder that snacks and treats are not to be shared with students and that all items brought into the school are to be nut free. Please check ingredients prior to packing snacks and lunches. We appreciate your vigilance and support.

Grade 6 and 7 STEM Opportunity at Milton District High School

Milton District High School is offering a new STEM program for grade 6 and 7 students. The program will run bi-weekly where the students will learn valuable information in the world of STEM and programming, while being exposed to a high-school like club environment, preparing them for their secondary school journey.
