I-STEM
I-STEM at Elsie MacGill
Program Overview
The I-STEM program is a one-of-a-kind regional interdisciplinary program that provides experiential learning opportunities connecting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
Developed in partnership with top universities and industry partners across the province, Elsie MacGill's I-STEM program invites students from all over Ontario to take part in a program that elevates critical thinking, creative problem solving, collaboration skills, presentation skills and technical abilities. In the program, students will contribute and thrive in a technologically intensive environment through project-based learning. The aim of the program is to develop meaningful and transferable skills for students at a secondary level to succeed in any post-secondary path of their choice, equipped with a curriculum that positions them to be future leaders of exploring and discovering new solutions to the world’s most pressing issues.

We held an in-person Open House on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Elsie MacGill SS to explain what I-STEM is, how the application process works, provide an opportunity to ask questions of I-STEM Students and Staff, and allow people to tour the school. Applications from current Grade 8 students were accepted until December 2, 2025.
At this point in time, the application process for admission to I-STEM is closed.

The I-STEM program channels a student’s natural fascination with emerging technologies into engineering meaningful solutions for tomorrow. Driven by a spirit of continuous innovation, the program builds a powerful, future-ready toolkit by fostering deep collaboration and instilling the adaptive leadership required to guide teams through complex challenges. Ultimately, by anchoring the curriculum in real-world, open-ended challenges, the program fulfills the promise of active, experiential learning, allowing students to move from theory to impact as they design, prototype, and build the future.
