  • Overview of spring 2025 purchases funded by School Council
  • Other School updates
    • This year we have 196 children at Park 
    • Re-org did happen which affected most classes. The open house date was moved to allow for the families to view their child(s) classes.

 

School Council Positions, Nominees & Voting

Initial 2025-2026 Calendar Overview

  • Planning on creating an annual calendar to share with all families in the coming months.

  • Reviewing possibility of replacing students chromebooks 8-10 per year
  • Milk day - will need to determine the feasibility of this and the cost

  • Spring fundraiser: West Coast Seeds - Gavin to provide update at next meeting
  • Dance-A-Thon: Winter months, will decide on date next meeting
  • FunDay: June Date TBD 
    • Council chose to organise this instead of a sub-committee. There may be a need for a sub-committee closer to the event date for logistical planning outside of the regular council meeting cadence.
    • Inflatables for funday - Vote was held to place the deposit:
      • Value = $2500.00 deposit 
      • Vote results = majority ruled.

Updates: 

  • Sept 30th was cookie sale (for gr. 5 grad)/ Truth and Reconciliation Day
  • Oct 1st Jersey Day had great participation
  • Oct 9th was x-country: great results 
  • huge turnout for Open House (~80% of families)
  • need cookies in the classrooms next year (ran out). Had leftover coffee/apples
  • photo workshop for older kids went well
  • Hallowe’en Parade was well attended
  • Book Fair now over - waiting on $ update
  • Grade 5 Town Hall visit 
  • Movie Night was well attended
  • Remembrance Day traditional walk to the park will happen tomorrow
  • Progress Reports go home November 17th
  • Popcorn Day November 27th (for gr. 5 grad)
  • Grade 5 trip to Helson Gallery December 15th
  • Cookie Day December 18th (for gr. 5 grad)
  • December 19th early dismissal (last day before Winter Break)
  • Back January 5th, 2026

 

 

 

Treasurer’s Report – 7:15 - Diana 

  • ~$9000 left from last year- needs to be allocated 
  • voted to give up to $1500 to families at Park in need for holiday gift wish lists
  • $4500 allocated to Fun Day
  • Potential Ask Fors:
    • more seating in the library:
    • blue bucket chairs ~ $1700
    • coffee tables needed to go with ~ to be sourced (guessing $800)
  • gym equipment - bean bags, poly spots, pylons ~$250
  • toboggans for kindie pen ~$150

= ~ $9000   voted yes

 

  • Future fundraising for:
  • alternative seating (e.g., wobble stools)
  • white boards for students 
  • snow shoes (expensive so still working on options)

 

Fundraising – 7:30 - Sara 

 

FunDay Update: 

  • 10% off inflatables if we make Fun Day on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday - voted no - keep it on a Friday (May 22nd)
  • need to have people in charge of main areas (food/ silent auction/ games and prizes/ bake sale)
  • Diana will be the Bake Sale “ask” point person for donations
  • Sara/Irene/Bonnie will organize games and prizes
  • Silent Auction - Sara and Bonnie will solicit - Bonnie will organize 

 

Movie Night - Irene 

  • made ~$150
  • sold juice, water and popcorn 
  • free pizza
  • length of the gym rather than width now
  • good turnout
  • Showed Toy Story
  • The next ones will be Thursday, February 5th and May?

 

Dance A Thon: 

  • Thursday, March 12th (before March Break)

  • St Patrick’s theme?

  • Sara and Diana want to decorate/attend - put a pin in this 

 

 

Grade 5 Grad:

  • June 18th- ceremony, awards, pizza, dance
  • trip to YMCA Belwoods the next day

    • Reading in line with the Board and the Province
    • Writing went down a bit (concise kiddos, no elaboration)
    • Mathematics was above standards 
      • keep in mind…take results with a grain of salt- small cohort can give really skewed data 

     - bought the Library chairs, gym equipment, etc. with approved Council funds

  • Office Reno has been completed, just waiting on cabinets. Nice open concept  

  • Kindie Pen Closure due to significant branches falling

    • arborist has come and pulled down what he could 
    • the city needs to complete the project by clearing the branches near power lines

  • Holiday wishlist purchases

    • Math games to support engaging Math programs

  • Uncle Dads Pizza

    • made $413 (minus the school cash online fee)
    • planning a google form to poll families asking if this was a hit
    • can run 2x/year - need a paper notice (not just email)
  • Teacher purchase requests 

    • $250-$500 clipboards/whiteboards- council approved
    • $500 math games - council approved

Streaming License Renewal 

    • $500 approved

Trustee Education Funding Presentation - Jeanne Gray- 7:15

  • Our funding situation has reached a critical point
  • 7.1 million deficit, asked to clear that by the Minister of Education, which will mean cuts from other areas
  • student enrollment is down (which is also tied to funding)
  • Halton District School Board is always given the lowest or second lowest funding in the province
  • Halton has historically done “more with less”, but that isn’t possible with the latest stats
  • parents and students are going to feel the impact of this latest round of cuts
  • encouraged to attend the Public and Trustees Information Sessions and spread the word so the community knows what’s happening and can try to demand more 

 

Fundraising Updates - 7:30

  • Dance-A-Thon - March 12th 

  • Each grade dances for a period
  • Karly to make the letter
  • Sara to make the poster  
  • Purchasing LED bracelets/necklaces for each student 
  • prizes to be given per class (teachers decide their criteria)
  • Make a letter for the school to fundraise (date to go out to school?)

  • Sara - Games and Prizes - waiting until April to organize 
  • Bonnie and Kaitlyn - Auction - Solicit Leaders (delegate places to each member to help) 

Seed Fundraiser

  • runs February 16th - March 2nd
  • put out once it opens
  • aiming to be distributed by end of March

 

PIC Update

  • Mad Scientist booked for February 26th (trying to change the date as Volleyball is also this day)  
  • families to arrive at 6pm
  • one 45 minute presentation (6:15-7:00 in the gym)
  • two fun stations booked for afterwards, probably need one more 
  • Reminder to move away from ‘PIC night’ terminology, call it ‘Park Family Night’
