2/23/2026 Black History Month Today's Black Brilliance info is about Lucie and Thorton Blackburn. They escaped slavery in Kentucky and settled in Detroit. However, their former owner tracked them down there and tried to return them to slavery. The Blackburns were able to make it to Canada, where the Canadian Courts defended them. This was seen as a symbol of Upper Canada’s role as a safe haven for Black refugees. The Blackburns settled in Toronto in the 1830s and worked hard to end slavery and help other Underground Railroad refugees settle in Canada. Kilgour, A. MacIntyre

If you are in grade 12 and are interested in being part of this year's Prom Committee, come to an information meeting TODAY in Room 219 right after school.

This will be a short 15 minute meeting to go over the planning process, and brainstorm some initial ideas.

This coming Wednesday is Pink Day at MDHS. We’re asking all students and staff to wear pink as we stand together against bullying and show our commitment to kindness and inclusion. Whether it’s a hoodie, a T-shirt, or just a pair of socks, show off that Mustang spirit. Mark your calendars for next Wednesday—let’s paint the school pink!		 Newman

He has held the world record for the 100-metre dash, and the title of World Champion and Olympic Champion. Many people around the world called him “The World’s Fastest Man.” Canadians were proud when this Jamaican-born athlete dominated the field at the 1996 Olympic Games, winning gold in the 100 metre and the 4 x 100-metre relay. The countdown for softball is on stangs! Do you want to join the softball team who took home a silver medal in division one last year?

Come on out to our softball info meeting on Wednesday February 25th right after school in room 122, the auto shop. The meeting won't be long, just to say hi and perhaps hand out some forms. 2/24/2026 Gr. 9-12 Waterloo Math Contests Hey MD, it's time for the last math contest of the year! If you're in Gr 9-12 and are interested in writing the Fryer, Galois, Hypatia, or Euclid contest, then pick up a permission form from the math office. MD Hosting the National Theatre School Drama Festival
MD will be hosting the Halton Region National Theatre School Drama Festival (NTS) March 3rd - 7th. Students and teachers from across Halton will be performing original scripts for a chance to move on and perform in the Regional Showcase. Tickets for the performance here at MD will be available.  Watch your emails for more information!
