EVT & E SHSM Areas

Transportation, Design or Engineering Sector Related Co-op
Students gain real-world experience and explore career options through a co-op placement related to transportation, design or engineering. This can be completed either during the summer between Grade 11 and 12 or as a 2-credit course in Grade 11 or 12.

Certifications
Students in the EV SHSM program will earn certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR Level C & AED, Customer Service, WHMIS, Leadership Skills, Personality Inventory, EV Safety Training, EV Maintenance and more.

Sector-Partner Experience
Students work with a business or organization to solve real-world problems using creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. One example includes collaborating with the March of Dimes Canada DesignAbility Program.

Reach-Ahead Activity
Students will explore post-secondary and career pathways in transportation, engineering or design by attending college/university lectures, touring campuses and participating in workshops or webinars.

Experiential Learning Activity
Students gain hands-on exposure to transportation and engineering through activities like the McMaster Altitude Program, robotics tours (e.g., Toyota, Ford), EV training at Niagara College, programming contests and skills competitions including the Waterloo EV Challenge.

Transportation, Design or Engineering – Conceptualized Learning Activity
In Grade 12 English, students read a SHSM-related book as part of their ISU. In Grade 11 Math, they complete a sector-related unit analyzing post-secondary education costs based on their chosen career pathway.
