About Us
Joseph Gibbons Public School and the surrounding Moore Park subdivision were constructed in the late 1960s on 100 acres of farmland formerly owned by James Moore and his family. The school officially opened in 1970, named in honor of Joseph Gibbons, a prominent local figure who served as town mayor for several terms spanning four decades. A portrait of Mr. Gibbons, presented by his wife during the opening ceremony, remains displayed in the main hallway to this day.
While the Koala has served as the school mascot since the 1980s, inspired by a visiting Australian teacher, students and staff recently voted to adopt a new mascot. We are proud to introduce the Gryphon, a symbol representing the strength, courage, and leadership of our school community. We are now the: Joseph Gibbons Gryphons Guardians of Greatness!
