School Council Agendas & Minutes

Every Ontario school has a school council - a vital advisory group that supports student achievement and strengthens the connection between families, schools and the education system. Chaired by parents, school councils include parent members, the principal, staff, community members and, in some cases, students. Councils meet at least four times a year, and all parents are welcome to attend.

Parents can run for election each fall. By joining, you help shape the learning experience in your school and contribute to a strong, collaborative education system. Your voice matters.

  • Character Trait ‘Be Determined’... focus is on overcoming obstacles
  • Winter Carnival: January 29th
  • Mr. Plas hung up some new snowball targets for recess, as the climber is out of bounds
  • Spring Musical - Thursday April 16th: 2pm and 6:30pm show
    • Would LOVE Parent Council Help: Tickets at the door, Usher/Direct families, Popcorn preorders for a Parent Council fundraiser in Breakfast Nook, Help with decorations 
School Financial Update – Jenn
  • $5457.00 in the School Council Account currently BUT the $4000 that was previously motioned has not been moved
  • Motion to move $1375 from Clarksgiving to School Council Acct

Fundraising Update - Caitlin

  • Kernels closes this Thursday, added Caramel, also increased price by 25 cents
  • Dance-A-Thon will be a ‘Donate What You Can’ event - February 12th
    • Conversations about how to make it a fundraising event

Family Engagement – Janelle

  • PRO Grant: Code Ninjas (date TBD, first OR last week of March)
  • Family Fun Night: Thursday, March 26th @6pm
  • TBD: date for the Fun Fair (not a fundraiser, may be a donation based event)

Mental Health/ Wellness – Carrie

  • ParticipACTION Grant: opens January 13th ($1000)
    • Used in the month of June - anything with a physical activity focus
  • International Day of Dance: Wednesday, April 29th
  • Pink Shirt Day: Wednesday, February 25th 
  • Conversations around supporting Families through a Food Pantry in the school
    • Cereal Box Dominoes - then boxes go into the school pantry
